Waking up next to Tarben was almost unnerving. Sloane wanted that, or what that represented, so badly, but Tarben seemed to see it casually, rolling off of Sloane's shoulder with a yawn and a vague wave as he headed to the bathroom.
Last night had been so good, and yet so unsatisfying compared to what Sloane truly wanted. He wanted to take Tarben out, show him that this was something real. Booty calls from a guy who knew what he meant to Sloane would be cute: this obliviousness was torture.
Unless Tarben wasn't as oblivious as he seemed, and was just following Sloane's lead. Sloane didn't know how he'd ever tell if that was the case, and there was really no point in trying to figure it out. He should be stopping. He was too old for Tarben and in an inappropriate position. It didn't matter if Tarben wanted him if Sloane should be stopping everything in its tracks.
His will was severely tested by Tarben's naked return from the shower, glowing and damp. "You going to stay there forever?" he called, his ass as tempting as always when he bent over his dresser to fish around for clothing.
"Maybe," Sloane groaned.
Tarben laughed, pulling on boxers. "Okay, man. You want me to tell Coach that I fucked you to death and you can't come to practice today?"
Sloane winced. "No, no, I'm coming," he said creakily. "I'll get up."
"Dude, it's a joke." Tarben grinned at him. "You want a clean shirt? I've got tons of team crap. No one'll know."
"I guess," Sloane said, trying to sit up and failing.
"Cool." Tarben nodded. He tossed a t-shirt onto the bed. "Going to make some eggs, come out when you're more awake."
The shirt, when Sloane managed to put it on, was definitely a little smaller than he was used to. Not too bad – Tarben's shoulders were pretty broad – but tighter around the chest than he was really used to. He'd just about convinced himself in the bedroom that it wasn't too obvious, but Tarben's whistle when he entered the kitchen shattered his certainty.
"Nice," Tarben said, with a smile that made Sloane's chest hurt. He handed Sloane a plate. "Eggs are probably burned, just to warn you."
They weren't burned. They were perfect. Tarben giggled his way out of all the compliments Sloane poured on his head. He was annoyingly cute when he was giggling.
Sloane was almost grateful for practice forcing the two of them out of the house early, before he had a chance to either get used to the comfortable feeling of hanging around with Tarben or make things awkward with his stupid feelings.
